Private. )

It's time for car shopping this weekend. Playing the stock market isn't my favorite thing in the world to do, but some time back I invested a fairly decent sum of money into a company that was doing a lot of work with Google - and the proceeds came through last week. It's nothing that'll have me moving house, but it's enough that I can afford to keep a car (and by "a car" I mean one that'll satisfy my tastes - namely, it'll go fast and look good doing it) as well as the bike. A girl's got to have her priorities straight, after all.

Half the profit I made is going toward the car, and the other half is being reinvested. My real calling in life was obviously to be an investment banker. I'm not only good at it, I'm great at it. It's basically all math and probabilities - if you're good enough at the game, you're not going to lose. The next round of profits will be the down payment on a house. I'm giving myself six months, tops.

There was another little indulgence - I bought flying lessons, out at the range on the edge of town. I'll be putting in my hours and getting my pilot's licence. I minored in physics at college, and I know I have a grasp of all the basic theory - I've been reading up over the last couple of weeks to brush up just in case. And I just love the thought of being up there and free. Nobody else to answer to, not relying on anyone else. I bet there's no feeling like it in the world.

And the world record for neglecting an online journal goes to Lucy Farinelli. 50 weeks? I could have at least left it to be a full year, that would have been something of an accomplishment. Why try again now? Good question.

So let's recap who I am. Lucy Farinelli. Older sister of Warren, twin sister of Harrison (we don't talk about him). I'm still living and working in midtown. (The gym's completely online now, so if you're a member and want to check your latest blood pressure or 2 mile results, you can just log onto joesharmony.com and even get real-time feedback to any questions.) I'm still driving that beautiful beast of a bike. And I'm a regular at the firing range. Anyone out there who has stress in their lives? I'd usually recommend exercise (and I still do), but there's something about the kick of a gun that chases everything away.

This week has been a busy one again - today and tomorrow excepted. We usually have a massive slow down over winter (apparently when people should be the most driven to exercise they're actually the least - go figure) but it's started to turn around. I had four completely new clients this week. Judging from my usual retention rate, I'll have two this week, and one the week after. The problem with being tough - you get given all the lazy clients who don't stick with it.

Tomorrow: the usual Sunday. Going for a run with Cain (that's the dog) first thing, then for a long ride on the bike. She gets a little wasted just going to and from work (it's about five minutes away - I usually walk it) so really letting her roar once a week is something I try to do. And then home to do some work on client routines - and I'm prepared for another week. I could think of a few things worse than this.

Cain and I are having a quiet night in. I managed to avoid the flu that was striking everyone down last week - something to be said about physical fitness, I think.

My brother's visit came and went without a lot of fanfare. He and I get along fine when we don't have to spend time together. When we do, we're competitive and jealous. He's in the police force, but he doesn't live in Harmony - he's actually out of state, whereas I stayed around. Which is ironic, considering he was always the one who got along with our parents. We're fine talking to each other on our birthday, but we never spend it together. Talking too often leads to competitiveness, leads to us not talking to each other.

He didn't have a lot of news to report. He and his girlfriend broke up, which is fine. I only met her twice, from what I can remember - and she didn't make much of an impression on me. My brother doesn't seem too cut up about it, either. Which is fine. At this point, I probably won't see him until our birthday in July - which is also fine. That's the thing about family, isn't it - you don't have to see each other all the time. And I'm glad for it.

ten facts about today [03 Apr 2009|04:32pm]
  1. The gym stays open until 10pm on a Thursday and Friday. Yours truly got the Friday shift short straw. After 7pm, it's a ghost town in here.
  2. Rachel Summers is a coffee-serving goddess in disguise. However, her talents definitely don't lie in bench pressing. In fact, if she didn't have such a dynamic, talented personal trainer, she would have dropped a barbell on her throat and been killed today. Of course, that's just because she has underdeveloped arms.
  3. The midtown Starbucks is definitely safe to frequent again. Bitchy incompetent barista has been fired - I heard it from the manager this morning.
  4. My bike wouldn't start this morning. Expensive repairs, coming up.
  5. This has made me conclude that I need to get a car. However, since my taste runs to the expensive (unlike my credit ranking), it may be several years and a second job before I can afford what I want.
  6. When a dog sleeps on top of you, it can be tough to convince him to move when you actually want to get up for the day.
  7. Vince Tyler should spend more time doing work at work, and less time emailing me when I should be out in the gym.
  8. My ears are still ringing from Mercury last night. If I have to hear that Britney Spears song one more time - and that includes the fact it's in my head - I'm going to have no choice but to start shooting.
  9. My brother is back in town. Lock up your sisters, daughters, and possibly Vince.
  10. As such, I'm going to a family lunch tomorrow. That's a drag.

Seriously. [20 Mar 2009|07:38pm]
Has anyone been to that midtown Starbucks - the one on the next block down from Joe's? The Tuesday-Saturday barista in there is the rudest person I've ever encountered. I generally don't go in just because I hate having to deal with him, but I was out last night - so starting at 5am was a little rough on me. But if anyone else has had to deal with this guy - it's hit-and-miss as to whether or not you actually get what you order. It's thrown off my whole day. Come into the gym this afternoon at your own risk.

I've decided I'm going to take lessons out at the firing range. I'd love to know how to shoot a gun. I get a lot of my frustration out through using a punching bag, but something like feeling the kick of a gun? I can't wait. I've never done it, but it's something I'm sure I'll be good at. I've got exceptionally good hand-eye co-ordination, and I'm extremely strong. I've signed up for a class this weekend, so I'll let you know how it goes.

ETA: Top on my pet peeves? Possibly even higher than rude Starbucks baristas? Irresponsible pet owners.

fuck working on saturdays! [15 Mar 2009|01:07am]
Friends who only love me for my ability to fix their completely fucked up computer systems: you're lucky I'm so generous. Also, stop looking at porn at work. Those sites are NSFW for more reasons than the obvious. Jerking to JPGs isn't completely without the risk of STDs.

Working on Saturdays is the most boring thing I could imagine. Joe's is lucky enough to be in the center of town, so the majority of our clients are 9-5 business people. Come the weekend, it's a ghost town in here. I've got a grand total of zero PT bookings today.

Rachel - early drinks at Mercury tonight, after I get off? Get your lazy ass in here before that, though.

post-snow. [01 Mar 2009|10:28am]
Work is unbelievably quiet right now. Apparently after a huge snowstorm, nobody (except me) feels like exercising. I think we've had ten people in since we re-opened. In total, not at once. So if you're reading this and you belong to Joe's Fitness Center, stop being so lazy and get your ass in here.

Like a few of you, I spent the storm snowed in at the bar. It was absolutely freezing. That more or less goes without saying, but it really was. I had my dog with me (luckily - I wouldn't have wanted him to be stuck at home alone) and it's awful to be holding your shivering dog and be totally unable to help him warm up.

Unlike everyone else, I don't know any of the missing. Obviously, I hope they're found. It'd be hypocritical of me to say it was idiotic of them to be out in the storm at all, since technically I went out after curfew (but then again, I'm totally fine and they're not - so I clearly did something right).

I'm so bored. Entertain me.

The snow. [19 Feb 2009|08:02pm]
Okay, so like I was saying to Lisa (or possibly Liza), people are scared of this storm. People are all staying inside. The way I feel is that if there's something so many people are afraid of then it must mean it's extremely powerful. And as such, it's something that I want to experience. So in conclusion, Cain and I are going for a walk. (Cain's my rescue dog. He had a rough time before I picked him up, but it's rude to talk about that without asking him first.) Besides, it's just snow. Honestly, I think we're giving it a lot more fear and respect than it really deserves.

Have a fun few days, everyone. Don't be shut ins.

first entry. [11 Feb 2009|12:56pm]
God, I love computers so fucking much.

Hey everyone. I'm Lucy Farinelli. If you go to Joe's, you know me, and you'll know that I'm usually called something that rhymes with witch. Which is just fine with me. I'm a little behind the eight ball when it comes to joining the network because they managed to send the email to an address I hardly use any more. You know, the kind of thing I set up when I was a kid. For the record, if you're emailing me, it's not ilovelucy@hmail.com (as if), it's lucy.farinelli@joesharmony.com. Easy to remember, right?

If you think you know me, you etiher went to school with me (because there's a hell of a lot of people around my age here), you went to Harmony U with me, or you go to my gym. The most socializing I do is with my laptop, so if you don't know me, don't be surprised. Look: hi. Now we know each other.
